First things first: Welcome to FAR CRY! I've played almost every Far Cry game in the series and if I were you, I'd start with Far Cry 3, 4, 5 and then New Dawn. However, I'd still recommend playing Far Cry Primal. It was a great game and though it didn't have traditional weapons, it's gameplay (pardon the pun) felt more primal.
The whole thing has a very Far Cry 3 vibe—the jungles, the more fleshed out main character, the aesthetic. I know that Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5 were kind of just coasting on the Far Cry 3
